Electrolytes.

Electrolytes are salts in the blood and body

tissues that are positive or negative charged.(ions). Electrolytes are essential for many physiological functions.

Horses lose electrolytes through sweat, urine etc. Sweat = water + electrolytes.

Chloride, sodium, potassium, calcium and

magnesium are electrolytes that must be replaced after sweating.

What type of electrolyte replacement does the equine athlete need?

A product that contains the above mentioned

electrolytes in similar proportions to those found in sweat but with lower amount of potassium (horse feed is overbalanced in potassium).

It should also contain substances  - like glycine - to aid in absorption of salts.
